You may ask yourself, what are you even talking about? Or you may be seeing more and more of these traditional portraits popping up. Heirloom portraits are a very simple, classic portrait usually seen in black and white of children in classic children’s clothing. Think a smocked dress or peter pan collar for little boys. In recent years, you are seeing more of a modern twist with clients using casual clothing, a button down or patterned dress for their children.
As you can see throughout my portfolio, I offer both the traditional black and white portraits as well as the images in color. Color has become a popular print option for clients, and I love the pops of color in your home!
Why Schedule Heirloom Portraits?
These portraits solely focus on one sweet child. While family portraits can be fun, show connection, and capture your children in a playful setting, Heirloom Portraits are in a simple white studio or with a white backdrop and focus on the expressions of your child. They can become a tradition to do year after year or for each child at a specific age.
When should I schedule an Heirloom Session?
These portraits are traditional captured during the early years, but I have photographed children that are school aged too. Most clients photograph their children before the age of 5 or as they enter kindergarten or first grade. Some parents even choose to use them for a one year milestone portrait.
I photographed our oldest for the first time at the age of 4, and started our middle at 1. I have continued to photograph the younger boys each year, but will definitely make sure to capture them all at the ages of 4 and 5.
To be honest, you really can’t go wrong with any age. With these traditional images, you can capture children beautifully with the simplicity of these portraits.
